Co-chairs for more global dialogues as part of the WDC's dementia landscape project series have been announced. The workshops will focus on care and on prevention/reducing the risk of dementia. The first dialogue in the series, on research, is next month and will focus on early detection and treatments and is chaired by Dr Maria Carrillo and Professor Philip Scheltens.
The global project will review international progress towards the 2025 dementia goals. At the G8 dementia summit in 2013, governments pledged to work together to advance research, improve care, raise awareness and prevent dementia. Along with the research workshop, the care dialogue and the prevention dialogue will bring together global leaders to review progress. In 2021 the Council will publish an report on progress towards the 2025 goals.
The care dialogue will be chaired by Professor Brian Lawlor, professor of old age psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin, and deputy executive director of the Global Brain Health Institute, and Paul Hogan, co-founder and chairman of Home Instead Senior Care, and a member of the World Dementia Council.
The prevention dialogue will be led by Professor Kaarin Anstey, professor of psychology and director of the University of New South Wales Ageing Futures Institute, and Professor Philippe Amouyel, general director of Fondation Plan Alzheimer (France), professor of epidemiology and public health at the University Hospital of Lille, and a member of the World Dementia Council.
