In 2013 the then UK Prime Minister hosted the first G8 Dementia Summit in London. The Summit brought together governments, dementia leaders, advocates and businesses. At the meeting governments agreed the first international communique on dementia.

It committed governments to developing by 2025 the first disease modifying treatments that would slow the progression of dementia. But not just that. It committed governments to making advances in all areas of research, in data sharing, in the ease of clinical trials and beyond that in prevention, in care and in public awareness and understanding.

The Council will convene a series of different activities reflecting on the goals. It will begin with a virtual workshop bringing together some of the participants in the 2013 meeting and reflecting on whether the hope and optimism of the meeting was realised.
