In May 2023, the government of Japan, the World Dementia Council (WDC) and Japan’s Global Policy Institute, brought together the G7 Health Ministers for a meeting on dementia. The ministerial meeting was held in conjunction with the G7 meeting in Nagasaki.
During the meeting, G7 government representatives and WDC members discussed the impact dementia has on the global population and ways governments and NGOs can address the growing public health crisis. In a ministerial communique issued after the meeting, the governments committed to accelerate dementia research to improve health outcomes with a focus on prevention, risk reduction, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of dementia. In addition, they support promotion of healthy ageing. The G7 Health Ministers' communique can be read here.
