At the World Dementia Council summit meeting in March 2022 the Netherlands Minister for Long Term Care Conny Helder announced the government's intention to host a high-level meeting on dementia to drive international action from governments on accelerating research and improving care.
In October the Government, with the World Dementia Council, hosted a virtual meeting on progress in research and care. Netherlands Minister for Long Term Care Conny Helder, WDC chair Professor Philip Scheltens, Professor Bart De Strooper, Dr Maria Carrillo, Professor Charlotte Teunissen, Professor Philippe Amouyel, Professor David Sharp, Dr Greg Moore and Professor Wiesje van der Flier. Ahead of the meeting a collection of essays were published a further collection will be published in spring 2023.
Minister Helder confirmed at the meeting the Netherlands government would host an in-person high level meeting on dementia in autumn 2023. The high-level meeting would be a one day meeting and address key issues in the dementia field and challenges facing policy makers.
