The period January 2016 to March 2017 has been a very significant time in the evolution of the World Dementia Council – a year in which we took steps to enhance our ability to fulfil our remit of leading the global fight against dementia. We set ourselves an ambitious agenda and are proud of what we have achieved – for example, beginning a detailed examination of dementia research and research funding; enhancing international research co-ordination through encouraging expansion of the EU’s Joint Programme in Neurodegenerative Diseases; and raising awareness of dementia and breakdown of stigma by working with the World Federation of Science Journalists to create a Dementia Toolbox to support journalists interested in dementia, particularly in low and middle income countries, to report more accurately and effectively.
